A favorite of pro athletes for years--not to mention more than 4,000 hospitals and rehab centers--the Total Gym line is better than a gym full of free weights and machines. The Total Gym 1500 works by making you lift a percentage of your body weight against gravity, so the resistance is always smooth and fluid. As your strength and conditioning improve, you increase the resistance. It's that simple, and it leads to a firmer stomach, tighter hips, thighs, and buttocks, and a more muscular frame. All told, the Total Gym 1500 offers more than 60 proven exercises, and includes a multifunction attachment that delivers even more options. The unit, which is constructed of solid steel, sets up in seconds and then folds away for easy storage. And to help you get started, the Total Gym 1500 includes a two-in-one exercise video and an exercise booklet that features both beginning and advanced programs. Other details include a box-stitch seat for comfort, a handy leg-pull accessory, chrome side rails and handles, and clear cables. Heartily endorsed by such celebs as Chuck Norris and Christie Brinkley, the Total Gym 1500 measures 88 by 44 by 16.12 inches (W x H x D) and requires some assembly. Good But Be Careful If You Have Long HairApr 26, 2008 I've had my total gym for some time now and I like it well enough. I feel like I get a decent workout when I use it but honestly I'm not a gym rat and don't know that much about exercise equipment. I judge it by how I feel after working out as per the instructions and if I can "feel it" the next day or two in my mucles. In that respect, I felt this equipment was getting the job done and also I admire Chuck Norris who to me, seems like a man of integrity who wouldn't put his name to just any piece of junk.
The things I don't like about this equipment are that every time I lay down on the board I have to worry about where my long hair is going even though I put it in a ponytail to work out because right after I first got the machine I ran over a big chunk of my ponytail and somehow it got rucked up in the underside of the carriage thing and I was stuck. I tried rolling off the machine but the tangle was close enough to my head that I didn't have much room to maneuver and was afraid I was making things worse. I finally had to yell for my husband to help. Now I'm a bit paranoid though it hasn't happened again. Maybe this is just one more thing to add to my list of "things that could only happen to me".
Anyway, my machine has done it's job. I feel like I got my money's worth but I'm ready to try something new that doesn't involve watching where my hair is going or working out all the time on an incline.
This Machine is Great!Jan 27, 2008 Does everything as advertised and more. My only complaint is a quality issue and this is why I have not given this Total Gym puechase five stars. During the first work out, one of the plastic wheels chipped and already looks that it may need replacing faily soon especially if it is used everyday, which it is. Also, the foam on the wings immediately started to tear away as I put my tennis shoes on there to exercise. Now only after a few weeks it's already almost worn down to the metal and I don't think I am that rough with it! Other than that, it's terrific. I would definitely buy again.
service after the sale?Nov 12, 2007 I bought a refurbished Total Gym 2000 from a company called Fitness Quest (which appeared to be the outlet for Total Gyms at the time), through an online auction site. That was 7 or 8 years ago. The seat only said "Total Gym", not "Total Gym 2000", but it looked like the same product. It has served me well over the years. Now it makes a lot of noise when I use it, which is only a problem during the summer when I have the windows open and I don't want to give the neighbors any weird ideas. (It sounds almost like a bed squeaking.) I have also progressed to the point where I have my Total Gym at it's highest setting, and I would like to purchase the optional weight bar attachment to add more weight.
I was unable to find the weight bar attachment for this model on the manufacturer's web site, so I clicked on their "contact us" link to inquire about the weight bar attachment, how much weight the Total Gym would support, and how I can lubricate the joints to reduce the noise. After a week, the company did not reply. I emailed them again, explaining that I had been recommending this product to all my friends and would start recommending people to *not* buy this product if they didn't have the decency to reply, even if it was only to say "I don't know". It's been more than two months, and the company still hasn't replied.
At this point, my impression is that it's a good product while it works. If it gets noisy over time, I guess you will have to live with it. If you don't order the optional attachments at time of purchase, good luck finding them later. If you need support from the company, forget it. I read that some people have problems with the wheels under the seat wearing out. I hope it doesn't happen to me, because I won't know where to get replacements. As for the weight bar attachment, I guess I will have to make my own using tubular steel or aluminum and getting some barbell weights to attach to it. As for the weight limit, I will have to search the house for the manual, which I didn't think I would need after all these years.
When my Total Gym finally breaks, I will not buy another one. Some companies just don't understand that service after the sale is just as important as selling the product in the first place. The commercials were impressive and the results of using the product were impressive, too. I really loved it. If you don't mind paying money for something you might need to replace later, go for it. Until the company wakes up, I will rank them along the lines of the company that made the $50 plastic (Suncast) water hose reel that broke. (To add insult to injury, it was relabeled as a "trusty" Sears Craftsman!) I refuse to pay $50 every few years for a plastic hose reel or any kind of product that isn't going to last. If I was into that scene, I would buy everything from Walmart!

Cheaper than a gym membership with more possibilities!Oct 24, 2007 I've had this machine now going on 2 weeks (I know why are you writing a review you've not seen results yet!) I use to work for Sears in the fitness department and I tried out numerous equipment. This machine has been on my "I want" list for quite sometime even before I got to get on one at work. I was surprised that it was so smooth and that I didn't feel any impact on my joints. I was also surprised that I could -feel- the weight at the higher levels.
So now I bought one and I've used it 3 days a week since getting it (5 days total so far) First two days I just went through the DVD (included) first starter routine that it had. Then I've setup a custom workout plan to get in 10 exercises in an order that allows me to get up my cardio without having to hook up and unhook attachments after each workout. I keep it on the same level throughout too until I do leg work.
The impact thus far is not measured in results, yet but rather in how it feels. By no means am I a gym rat or a health freak, but I spent 2 full months at a local gym 5 days a week doing their routine of target areas each day and cardio and I was there from 1 hour to 2 hours a day each day with Wednesday being the shortest day since I only worked abs and cardio. I saw no results physically and even lost the burning (a good sign) sensations you should feel after a good workout. My body had adjusted to the workout and wasn't being affected properly anymore. I of course got disheartened and left the gym.
My experiences thus far with the Total Gym have been truly amazing I was left speechless by the burn I got and how easily I could FEEL the machine working my muscles. It could be the independent design of the hand grips and the fact that each exercise targets tons of support muscles that often get left out during the more normal movements of the muscle groups. Every single day I've used this machine I've gotten off and felt GREAT the burning soreness of good work without the side affects of aches later in the day. The panting breathes of a solid cardio routine without the light headed dizziness. With the routine I'm doing I spend at most 30 minutes a day on the machine and actually WISH I could use it more often!! Its 250 bucks you'll be glad you spent IF you use the machine.

unbelievable Oct 06, 2007 The exercise that this machine offers you is tremendous. Once you start your program not only will you lose weight and build muscle it makes your body perform better because of the fluent movement of the exercises. When you get your body and weight where you want, it is easy to develope a maintenance program.
Total Gym gives you everything you need for a physical work out. The key word is TOTAL. I say once again if you love your self this machine rewards you with real results.
